Plum Blossoms in Morning Light. Photo: Persis Karim

Solitary Blossom. Photo: Persis Karim blossom in light, blossom in fog
regionally you are the beacon of the possible
the source of all beginning
the fleeting and the steadfast
the wind carries you like a message
of devotion, scattering your white
light that sticks like magic
to the bottom of my shoes.

The Tree

the tree has no need for patience
she lives in the enormity of seasons

the language of water and sun
the rhythm of wind and clouds

provokes her tiny seed, tests
the sapling of her attitude

marks her with bent time
and heavy limbs and lighting

strikes that scorch her nearly
every two years in August

no need for patience at all
just the endurance of roots

and relation to all things
that announce themselves

whether she listens or not.
